Good Sports
Good Sports® aims to create positive sporting experiences for Kiwi kids by supporting and educating the key adult influencers in children’s sport: parents, caregivers, coaches, teachers and sport leaders. Both practitioners and researchers supporting Good Sports agree that issues in children’s sport, such as poor side-line behaviour, early onset of overuse injury, burnout and disaffection with sport, stem from adult involvement in children’s sport and can ultimately hinder success on and off the field. To address these issues and give Kiwi kids the greatest chance of developing a lifelong love of sport, Good Sports believes we need to raise adults’ awareness about their behaviours in children’s sport, and if necessary, promote a positive shift in that behaviour. Read more about the Good Sports programme here.
Meet the team
Club President - Kirsten Kilmister
Having been a competitive sprinter for Wellington up until the age of 20, Kirsten returned as a parent helper when her two children got involved at the ages of 7 and 5. Doing the Run, Jump, Throw course and then a variety of level 1 coaching courses, Kirsten has been helping out on club nights in a variety of roles over the years. Parent helpers are always needed! Kirsten became President of the Mana club committee in April 2022 and was appointed as a member of the Athletics Wellington Board in September 2022. Kirsten is also our Child Protection Officer.
Club Captain - Rob Clark
Rob has been involved with the club for 10 + years with my two children coming up through the club. For the past few years, he has been club captain managing the club night program and also managing the nursery grade activities. Rob enjoys seeing the kids enjoying themselves and develop as athletes as they move through the grades. Rob is also our Health & Safety Officer
Club Operations - Nate Lewer
After being a competetive athlete through to his mid-20's, Nate joined the club with his 3 sons in 2016 when moving to the area. A stint on the Athletics Wellington Board, coupled with owning a business providing childrens entertainment, Nate loves seeing kids have fun and looks after our club nights and team events.
Club Secretary - Lynaire Parish
Lynaire became involved with the club 4 years ago when her eldest daughter started athletics as a 6 year old. She was a parent helper in the nursery grade and the following year, took the 7 year olds around to their events on club nights. It was that year she joined the committee as a member then filled the role of secretary and grants coordinator. Lynaire's second daughter then started in the nursery grade and that has been her base for the summer athletics seasons.
Club Treasurer - Andy Brown
Andy has been the backbone of Mana Athletics for a number of years now. A former hurdler and competitor in many sports, Andy is now pleased to be able to put something back where he can. He has 3 children enjoying their athletics with Mana.
Committee Member - Shaun Freemantle
Shaun joined the Mana Athletics Committee recently, after his second child joined the club. His main sport growing up was rugby, but he also enjoyed competing in athletics for school and club. For the past seven years he has coached his kids in rugby and football and is now keen to help provide a fun and nurturing environment for our budding Mana athletes. You’ll see Shaun at club nights helping to warm up the 7-9 year olds and getting activities organised.
